Salt Lake City, UT, USA — City streets will get a slippery makeover in more than 150 cities around the world when Slide the City goes on tour with 1,000+ feet of padded vinyl. Turning hills into water-sliding thrills is the goal of the event, which was created in an effort to get people outside, having fun, and connecting with their community.
Participants in Slide the City will ride inflatables down a 1,000-ft. water slide. This one-of-a-kind experience will help people “slide into summer,” while supporting a good cause. A portion of the proceeds of each event will benefit a local charity.
“We want to make a difference while we’re making memories,” event founder TR Gourley said.
The first event of its kind, Slide the City has seen massive growth since it started in 2014. This original concept went viral when the video was released, and this year promises to be bigger, better, and wetter.
“This will be one of the highlights of your year,” said Gourley “Get ready for the slide of your life!”
Slide the City will make its 2015 debut with a World Record Breaking event: longest slide and the most number of sliders, in West Palm Beach, FL on February 14th.
Each rider can purchase a one ride pass, three ride pass, or all-day pass. With over 150 events in the US and Canada, and more than 20 international locations beginning with Japan and Australia as early as March, water slide enthusiasts are sure to find a Slide the City event nearby.

Britain and the United States are leading global recovery, the head of the IMF has said.
In a major boost for David Cameron, Christine Lagarde praised the UK's "eloquent and convincing" lead in the European Union's battle for prosperity.
The IMF managing director was last year forced to admit that the global eonomic watchdog got it wrong after it had previously warned Britain was "playing with fire" by pushing ahead with austerity.
At the start of roundtable discussion in Washington that she co-hosted with the Prime Minister on the global economic outlook for 2015, Ms Lagarde said on global recovery: "The UK is leading in a very eloquent and convincing way in the European Union."
She said there were two countries that were leading the way on growth. "One is the USA, where growth is solid, anchored and where we foresee a 2015 that will be also a good year," she said.
"And the UK where clearly growth is improving, the deficit has been reduced, and where the unemployment is going down. Certainly from a global perspective this is exactly the sort of result that we would like to see.
"More growth, less unemployment, a growth that is more inclusive, that is better shared, and a growth that is also sustainable and more balanced."
Mr Cameron is discussing the global economy at a working dinner in the White House with US president Barack Obama.
The Prime Minister let slip recently that the president calls him Bro. Asked by the BBC about the nickname, he replied: "We have a very good relationship. It's normally Barack and David, I hasten to add. Well It's been said.
"The point is this, he became president six years ago, I became prime minister not quite five years ago. We've both faced very big challenges. We work very closely together, we get on very well, I think we see these issues in the same way and it's a very good partnership."

An anonymous passenger brightened a Philadelphia cab driver's night with the tip of a lifetime: nearly $1,000 on a $4.31 fare.
Oumar Maiga's bosses revealed the hefty, holiday-season gratuity Wednesday after waiting to make sure the credit card cleared and it wasn't an error.
The West African immigrant received the $989.98 tip Dec. 13.
Maiga's bosses tell Philly.com (http://bit.ly/1AfGvSZ ) the cabbie and passenger chatted briefly during the mile-long trip from the city's Old City section to Columbus Boulevard.
Maiga said his shift had been a little hectic. The passenger said he'd make it a great night and punched in the tip.
Maiga asked if he'd made a mistake. The passenger replied, "I know what I did."
Maiga's bosses said the card company wouldn't give up the mystery tipper's name.

When a social network loves its users very, very much, it helps them get some of their privacy back.
Mark Zuckerberg tried to convey an image of a beneficent Facebook at the company's f8 conference Wednesday, introducing an update that would let members claw back the personal information they share with third-party applications. Zuckerberg said that he'd been doing a lot of thinking on the eve of his 30th birthday, and had decided Facebook must "build a culture of loving the people we serve." He added, "I hope you can see the seeds of this in what we're building today."
There's no doubt Facebook's new login policy does a service to its members, who will now be able select what data from their profiles is available to an app, or even log in "anonymously," not sharing information with the app at all.
But a compassionate act of love? A sign of Facebook's undying commitment to "put people first," as Zuckerberg said was his priority? Not quite.
Though framed as a privacy safeguard, the latest login options are just another way for Facebook to learn even more about its members' activities online. If logging in with a Facebook identity appears trustworthy, Facebook's users will be more inclined to tote Facebook with them to third-party services, which in turn will give Zuckerberg a more complete picture of what his users do around the Internet. The company wants people to take Facebook everywhere they go -- Gilt Group, Paperless Post, One King's Lane, Spotify -- so it can learn what its members love and improve its ad-targeting abilities.
Giving people more control over what personal information third-party services can access will "definitely benefit Facebook," said Debra Aho Williamson, an analyst with eMarketer. "Any time you use Facebook to log into an app, Facebook can capture that information and use it for its own ad targeting."
As Zuckerberg noted Wednesday, many people currently hesitate to "Log In with Facebook" when signing into a service. They worry that letting an app access their Facebook account could mean mortifying purchases will appear in friends' News Feeds (they might!), or spam messages will inundate their colleagues (also possible!). So instead, people opt for the hassle of creating a new username, or else rely on another one of their accounts, such as Gmail or Twitter.
When this happens, Facebook loses out on the chance to add to its understanding of who we are and what we do. Bypassing the Facebook login means that Facebook might never discover your love for online dating apps or photo-editing tools -- information that's crucial for sweetening Facebook's pitch to advertisers, and particularly key as the company makes a push for developers' ad dollars.
"If people log into apps through Facebook's login, then Facebook knows more about the user. It knows more about the apps they use, how many apps they're using and how often," said Nate Elliott, an analyst with the research firm Forrester. "That gives Facebook the theoretical ability to better target apps to users and [the] theoretical ability to understand the apps that they're using."
Developers lose the most in Facebook's ostensibly compassionate shift toward more private logins: App creators will no longer get to help themselves to their users' personal information, and will, in some cases, have to deal with unidentified individuals who try Facebook's new "log in anonymously" option. Elliott said that when Zuckerberg announced the new policy, the audience at the f8 auditorium, which consisted mostly of developers, was silent.
Zuckerberg's alleged soul-searching should perhaps prompt users of his site to do the same. Can they trust a "loving" Facebook? And will it really be so different from the kind of Facebook they knew before?
"Privacy is like a yo-yo for Facebook," said Elliott. "Sometimes it's near, and sometimes it's far."

We know it's a bit of a slow news day when Ariana Grande's hair makes headlines, but she so rarely ventures from her signature half-up ponytail, that wearing her hair down is big news.
Ariana has taken plenty of heat in the past for not changing things up with her hairstyle and she's explained the choice on several occasions, ranging from a way to deal with damaged hair to just feeling more comfortable about her hair up.
Yesterday, she posted a completely new 'do – but we don't think we'll be seeing it around much. She wore two adorable braided mini-buns and posed for a few selfies to show off the look.
But this new Instagram pic with her hair down, shiny and just tousled a bit? In a word? Rawr. Ariana is beautiful no matter what she does with her hair, but we like this more romantic look on her too.

Someone in Selena Gomez's family needs to tell her grandparents to put a clamp on it ASAP. Her biological father's parents just spoke to RadarOnline.com about their famous granddaughter, and now we are really worried about her.
"She hardly takes some time out. There was some pressure, first because it's a lot of work," Ricardo Gomez told Radar. "The doctor was telling her she needs to take some time out. It's just too much pressure what she's going through. It's just too much! She doesn't have a single day's break...It's getting to the point with all this pressure...that it's too much," he added.
Late last year, Selena canceled several tour dates, and checked herself into an Arizona rehab. There were reports she was dealing with emotional issues caused by her rocky relationship with Justin Bieber and an alcohol problem.
"We just saw in some newspaper that she was doing drugs. I called her and said, [you] need to watch out," Ricardo said. Like any young granddaughter would, Sel reassured them she was fine. However, they revealed that Justin was one of things that triggered her problems.
Sel's grandparents also brought up her health in the interview with Radar. There were reports awhile back that she was diagnosed with lupus. They confirmed that she is receiving treatment for the illness.
"What worries [us] more is that she doesn't know how to say no. She won't take time for herself to relax, to eat well. She doesn't even come home to eat some of grandma's cooking anymore."

Is Miley Cyrus dead? That's what everyone in the Facebook world was wondering when a rumor started swirling online that the twerker was in fact dead.
"{SHOCKING) Miley Cyrus Found Dead in Her Los Angeles Home! Country singer Miley Cyrus found overdosed this afternoon in her Los Angeles home," the messages read. It wasn't an official newsflash or anything, it was all a viral Facebook scam.
The scammers behind the hoax tried to convince people to click on their link by saying Miley died in her Los Angeles home due to a drug overdose. The hoax is designed to spread bogus surveys that make money for the scammers behind it.
Apparently when users click on the post, they're redirected to a website designed to look like Facebook. It then prompts them to share the page before going further. This ensures that the scam spreads even further.
Unfortunately, a lot of Smilers weren't aware that the whole thing was fake, and really thought Miley was gone. She's reportedly aware of the whole death hoax, and supposedly thinks it's kind of entertaining. Read about that here.

Tiger Stadium, Louisiana State University
Nicknamed “Death Valley, Tiger Stadium at LSU held 12,000 fans when it was constructed in 1924. Capacity has since expanded to nine times the original size, capping out at 102,000 people. It’s the ninth largest stadium in the world. Many surveys call it the most difficult place for an opposing team to play.
Beaver Stadium, Pennsylvania State University
The fourth largest stadium in the world with a capacity of over 106,000, Penn State’s Beaver Stadium is also known as a difficult place to play for opposing teams. Beaver Stadium has hosted “whiteout games,” where (almost) all fans wear white. There are several traditions in the student section and with the band that make games especially fun to attend.
Neyland Stadium, University of Tennessee
University of Tennessee’s Neyland Stadium is another big college football stadium, coming in at the fifth largest in the U.S. and eighth largest in the world. It’s undergone over a dozen expansions since it was built in 1921 to allow for its present capacity of over 102,000 fans.

Boise State’s Albertsons Stadium is known for its bright blue turf. It was the first ever football stadium to have turf that wasn’t green. Albertsons opened in 1970 and following several expansions over the years, it holds just over 36,000 fans.

Notre Dame Stadium is well known for “Touchdown Jesus,” a mosaic mural that’s on the library. The art is formally called “The Word of Life” and features Jesus with upstretched arms, which of course resemble a ref calling a touchdown. The stadium holds over 80,000 fans and an upcoming $400 million renovation that will begin at the end of 2014 will add luxury boxes and increase capacity by over 4,000.
Camp Randall Stadium, University of Wisconsin
University of Wisconsin’s Camp Randall Stadium was built in 1917. It holds over 80,000 fans and is one of the largest stadiums in the U.S. that’s owned by a college. It’s built on the grounds of a former Civil War training center.

Autzen Stadium at University of Oregon consistently makes top 10 college stadium lists. It’s max capacity is only 54,000 fans (although the number in attendance often reaches several thousand more than that), but Autzen stadium is known for having loud crowds. Divers exploring the waters off Costa Rica recently had an extraordinary encounter with one of the ocean's most majestic creatures, who, in the throes of a life-threatening predicament, approached them as if to ask for their help.
The group was partway through their dive when an enormous manta ray appeared in the distance, swimming in their direction. As the animal got closer, the divers noticed that she was entangled in rope from a fishing net which was cutting into her flesh. Amazingly, instead of diverting course, the manta ray continued toward them, close enough for diver Brian Thompson to unwrap the thick line from her body.
“It was the first time I saw a manta ray. There was a very profound interaction between her and the diver," Thomaz Monteiro, who was present for the surreal scene, told news outlet G1 Globo.
You may not have thought it at the time, but if you were one of the few to see a pre-release screening of the Seth Rogen-James Franco comedy The Interview, you're one of the luckiest people in the world. Or at least, you're in a very select group. Why? Because apparently now, no one else will. The film's release, which was originally scheduled for December 25th, has been cancelled after the group behind the recent Sony hack threatened that cinemas showing the film and their audiences would face a "bitter fate" because of the storyline depicting the fictional assassination of North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un.
It's yet to be determined where the hacker group is based or whether they're from the North Korean government, crazy American hackers... or a Sony Pictures conspiracy to get the world talking about a likely sub-standard comedy.

A friend and I completed a 55km, three-day hike across the Pirin mountains. We started in picturesque Dobrinishte, stayed in mountain huts for two nights and finished in the famous wine-growing town of Melnik, via the stunning Rozhen monastery. The variety of landscape was wonderful, from the glacial lakes of the upper mountains to the gentle Alpine forests below and finally the almost sub-tropical sandstone pyramids, dense vines and creepers around Melnik. jamescrouchman Three days is all it takes to complete one of New Zealand’s great walks. The trek takes you through dense forest to rocky mountainsides with some spectacular waterfalls on the way. Side treks are also available for those who want a little more adventure. These are greatly advised – particularly Conical Hill, which gives a panoramic view of the mountain range. Alpine parrots will accompany your journey, but keep an eye on your picnic! The Travessia Petrópolis is a three-day trek inland from the city of Rio that takes you up above the clouds to over 2,000m in the Parque Nacional da Serra dos Orgãos. You will see spectacular sunsets and sunrises and can bathe in a refreshing waterfall. You can spend two nights in mountain shelters, hire a tent or take your own. You will need to pay a small fee to access the park, which can be done online, where you can also book the shelter and find a local guide. When you get back to Rio, you can carry on trekking with climbs up the numerous peaks of that amazing city. This is one of the last great wilderness walks in the British Isles, and not for the faint-hearted. It’s a rough, tough five-day trek with no roads, no accommodation other than basic bothies – and no other people! What it does have is superb coastal scenery, abundant wildlife and remarkable geological phenomena.
