Salt Lake City, UT, USA — City streets will get a slippery makeover in more than 150 cities around the world when Slide the City goes on tour with 1,000+ feet of padded vinyl. Turning hills into water-sliding thrills is the goal of the event, which was created in an effort to get people outside, having fun, and connecting with their community. Participants in Slide the City will ride inflatables down a 1,000-ft. water slide. This one-of-a-kind experience will help people “slide into summer,” while supporting a good cause. A portion of the proceeds of each event will benefit a local charity. “We want to make a difference while we’re making memories,” event founder TR Gourley said. The first event of its kind, Slide the City has seen massive growth since it started in 2014. This original concept went viral when the video was released, and this year promises to be bigger, better, and wetter. “This will be one of the highlights of your year,” said Gourley “Get ready for the slide of your life!” Slide the City will make its 2015 debut with a World Record Breaking event: longest slide and the most number of sliders, in West Palm Beach, FL on February 14th. Each rider can purchase a one ride pass, three ride pass, or all-day pass. With over 150 events in the US and Canada, and more than 20 international locations beginning with Japan and Australia as early as March, water slide enthusiasts are sure to find a Slide the City event nearby.

In a major boost for David Cameron, Christine Lagarde praised the UK's "eloquent and convincing" lead in the European Union's battle for prosperity. The IMF managing director was last year forced to admit that the global eonomic watchdog got it wrong after it had previously warned Britain was "playing with fire" by pushing ahead with austerity. At the start of roundtable discussion in Washington that she co-hosted with the Prime Minister on the global economic outlook for 2015, Ms Lagarde said on global recovery: "The UK is leading in a very eloquent and convincing way in the European Union." She said there were two countries that were leading the way on growth. "One is the USA, where growth is solid, anchored and where we foresee a 2015 that will be also a good year," she said. "And the UK where clearly growth is improving, the deficit has been reduced, and where the unemployment is going down. Certainly from a global perspective this is exactly the sort of result that we would like to see. "More growth, less unemployment, a growth that is more inclusive, that is better shared, and a growth that is also sustainable and more balanced." Mr Cameron is discussing the global economy at a working dinner in the White House with US president Barack Obama. The Prime Minister let slip recently that the president calls him Bro. Asked by the BBC about the nickname, he replied: "We have a very good relationship. It's normally Barack and David, I hasten to add. Well It's been said. "The point is this, he became president six years ago, I became prime minister not quite five years ago. We've both faced very big challenges. We work very closely together, we get on very well, I think we see these issues in the same way and it's a very good partnership."

The Associated Press PHILADELPHIA — An anonymous passenger brightened a Philadelphia cab driver's night with the tip of a lifetime: nearly $1,000 on a $4.31 fare. Oumar Maiga's bosses revealed the hefty, holiday-season gratuity Wednesday after waiting to make sure the credit card cleared and it wasn't an error. The West African immigrant received the $989.98 tip Dec. 13. Maiga's bosses tell Philly.com (http://bit.ly/1AfGvSZ ) the cabbie and passenger chatted briefly during the mile-long trip from the city's Old City section to Columbus Boulevard. Maiga said his shift had been a little hectic. The passenger said he'd make it a great night and punched in the tip. Maiga asked if he'd made a mistake. The passenger replied, "I know what I did." Maiga's bosses said the card company wouldn't give up the mystery tipper's name. Mark Zuckerberg tried to convey an image of a beneficent Facebook at the company's f8 conference Wednesday, introducing an update that would let members claw back the personal information they share with third-party applications. Zuckerberg said that he'd been doing a lot of thinking on the eve of his 30th birthday, and had decided Facebook must "build a culture of loving the people we serve." He added, "I hope you can see the seeds of this in what we're building today." There's no doubt Facebook's new login policy does a service to its members, who will now be able select what data from their profiles is available to an app, or even log in "anonymously," not sharing information with the app at all. But a compassionate act of love? A sign of Facebook's undying commitment to "put people first," as Zuckerberg said was his priority? Not quite. Though framed as a privacy safeguard, the latest login options are just another way for Facebook to learn even more about its members' activities online. If logging in with a Facebook identity appears trustworthy, Facebook's users will be more inclined to tote Facebook with them to third-party services, which in turn will give Zuckerberg a more complete picture of what his users do around the Internet. The company wants people to take Facebook everywhere they go -- Gilt Group, Paperless Post, One King's Lane, Spotify -- so it can learn what its members love and improve its ad-targeting abilities. Giving people more control over what personal information third-party services can access will "definitely benefit Facebook," said Debra Aho Williamson, an analyst with eMarketer. "Any time you use Facebook to log into an app, Facebook can capture that information and use it for its own ad targeting." As Zuckerberg noted Wednesday, many people currently hesitate to "Log In with Facebook" when signing into a service. They worry that letting an app access their Facebook account could mean mortifying purchases will appear in friends' News Feeds (they might!), or spam messages will inundate their colleagues (also possible!). So instead, people opt for the hassle of creating a new username, or else rely on another one of their accounts, such as Gmail or Twitter. When this happens, Facebook loses out on the chance to add to its understanding of who we are and what we do. Bypassing the Facebook login means that Facebook might never discover your love for online dating apps or photo-editing tools -- information that's crucial for sweetening Facebook's pitch to advertisers, and particularly key as the company makes a push for developers' ad dollars. "If people log into apps through Facebook's login, then Facebook knows more about the user. It knows more about the apps they use, how many apps they're using and how often," said Nate Elliott, an analyst with the research firm Forrester. "That gives Facebook the theoretical ability to better target apps to users and [the] theoretical ability to understand the apps that they're using." Developers lose the most in Facebook's ostensibly compassionate shift toward more private logins: App creators will no longer get to help themselves to their users' personal information, and will, in some cases, have to deal with unidentified individuals who try Facebook's new "log in anonymously" option. Elliott said that when Zuckerberg announced the new policy, the audience at the f8 auditorium, which consisted mostly of developers, was silent. Zuckerberg's alleged soul-searching should perhaps prompt users of his site to do the same. Can they trust a "loving" Facebook? And will it really be so different from the kind of Facebook they knew before? "Privacy is like a yo-yo for Facebook," said Elliott. "Sometimes it's near, and sometimes it's far." Divers exploring the waters off Costa Rica recently had an extraordinary encounter with one of the ocean's most majestic creatures, who, in the throes of a life-threatening predicament, approached them as if to ask for their help. The group was partway through their dive when an enormous manta ray appeared in the distance, swimming in their direction. As the animal got closer, the divers noticed that she was entangled in rope from a fishing net which was cutting into her flesh. Amazingly, instead of diverting course, the manta ray continued toward them, close enough for diver Brian Thompson to unwrap the thick line from her body. “It was the first time I saw a manta ray. There was a very profound interaction between her and the diver," Thomaz Monteiro, who was present for the surreal scene, told news outlet G1 Globo.

You may not have thought it at the time, but if you were one of the few to see a pre-release screening of the Seth Rogen-James Franco comedy The Interview, you're one of the luckiest people in the world.
